Grihalakshmi Soundarapandian (she/her)

Grihalakshmi is a Tamil Canadian Bharatanatyam dancer and urban planner whose work explores the intersections of heritage, place-based identity, and contemporary performance. She began training in 2003 and completed her Arangetram in 2016 under the guidance of Jai Govinda at Mandala Arts and Culture. She has performed widely across Canada and internationally, including earning second place in the Senior Varnam category at the 2018 Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival. In 2023, she was featured in a solo, four-piece virtual program with Mandala, that highlighted the synergy between pure dance and storytelling elements. In 2025, she performed in Toronto Dance Theatre’s Eyes on Beginning showcase. Her practice explores with Bharatanatyam’s technical architecture and versatility, alongside contemporary and interdisciplinary movement.
