Svāhā! on the Land

Svāhā! On the Land is Nova Dance’s offering of arrival, reverence, and joy. Rooted in shared breath, rhythm, and celebration, this spectacular free, site-specific event culminates in a powerful performance and an open, post-show dance party for all.

Choreographed Nova Bhattacharya, the work features nine exceptional dancers trained in Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Western contemporary, Bollywood, Latin, Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, and Filipino cultural dance joined by the next generation of movers from Citadel Dance Program and Abhinayakshetra Fine Arts Canada. Their vibrant presence strengthens intergenerational exchange, uplifts community voices, and deepens the impact of sharing movement and culture.

Set to an electrifying soundscape by Ed Hanley, Svāhā! On the Land weaves diasporic traditions with contemporary innovation—bringing together artists deeply embedded in Toronto’s dynamic cultural landscape and reflecting the city’s extraordinary artistic diversity.
