Nova Dance invites you to celebrate Saraswati Puja at The Theatre Centre!

Saraswati (Sanskrit: सरस्वती, Sarasvatī) - the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts, wisdom and nature
Puja (Hinduism), a ritual to host, honor or celebrate an event

The event begins at 11 AM in the Gallery for puja & performance (you will be asked to remove your shoes to enter).

Following the puja, the spirit of prasada will be honoured through a community meal in the café, at approximately 1 PM.

Prasada literally means a gracious gift, typically food that is first offered to a deity, and then distributed.

Nova writes: “As a child growing up in Toronto, Saraswati Puja usually meant I’d being wearing my dance costume under a parka, and heading out first thing on a cold, blustery, winter morning to a community centre, or dance studio, or even someone’s home. Once there, my father would perform the rites of the puja, and I, alongside many other Bengali children, would dance, sing, recite poetry, or draw a picture to celebrate and honour the goddess who loved the arts. We would eat the food that had been offered to the her, and wish that some of her “favourites” were served more often. I am filled with immense joy to be able to share this beautiful practice through Nova Dance’s relationship with The Theatre Centre.”
